Administrator: Associate Athletic Director, Development

Education Required: Baccalaureate degree in Sports Administration, Business, Marketing, Communications or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education Preferred: Master's degree in Sports Administration Business, Marketing, Communications or related field.

Required Experience: Demonstrated experience in development or athletic marketing for collegiate athletics, professional sports or a related field with proven experience in achieving business related goals.

Preferred Experience: Demonstrated experience in annual giving and progressive results-orientated experience at NCAA Division 1 (including FCS football) or professional sports level; knowledge of Big Sky Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Former student-athlete engagement preferred.

FTE and Benefits: 1.0 FTE; eligible for full employment benefits

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Athletic Director, Development ("Assistant AD") for the Montana State University Alumni Foundation ("Alumni Foundation") works with and reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director for Development, as part of the Alumni Foundation's Development Team and in collaboration with the Montana State University "MSU" Athletics Department. The Assistant AD is responsible for the Annual Scholarship Fund for Bobcat Athletics, promoting and expanding the understanding and revenue for the department's Student-Athlete Scholarships through increased awareness and growth within the MSU Athletics Community, state of Montana and region. The Assistant AD is also responsible for securing Major Gifts (greater than $25,000) in support of MSU by establishing relationships with donors, working to ensure that donor intent is honored, and serving as trustees to ensure donor intent is clearly communicated and honored.

This position requires high collaboration, motivation, and skill in creating and executing compelling annual giving and engagement strategies.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Collaborate with Annual Fund and Athletics teams by contributing to fundraising efforts to build a pipeline of private support for MSU within the athletics constituent group.
  2. Manage the day-to-day operation of the Bobcat Annual Scholarship Fund, including planning, implementing, coordinating, and promoting all aspects of the Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund, including but not limited to season ticket campaigns and subsequent donation requirements, unique fundraising initiatives, special events, and social media in conjunction with the Athletics and Alumni Foundation social media teams.
  3. Assist in the coordination of all Bobcat Club communications with its constituents; develop and maintain Bobcat Club budget and marketing plan.
  4. Coordinate, monitor and solicit Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff for Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship contributions.
  5. Oversee and coordinate Bobcat Club/Athletic Department special fundraising initiatives.
  6. Make personalized solicitations using video, phone, email, and other technology to connect with athletics donors.
  7. Focus on acquiring, retaining, and upgrading athletics donors at the Leadership Annual Giving level (between $5,000 and $24,999.99) including alumni, faculty/staff/retirees, and friends of MSU.
  8. Partner with Associate AD, Development and coordinate moves management by identifying prospects within Leadership Giving to move through the fundraising pipeline into Major Giving in support of Athletics.
  9. Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-125 MSU Alumni, friends, and prospects through active identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship as it relates to securing Major Gifts (greater than $25,000). Plan and conduct strategic face to face meetings followed by contract documentation and follow-up to secure and steward support for MSU.
  10. Communicate verbally and in written form the stories about the impact of annual philanthropic support with current and potential athletics donors and other stakeholders.
  11. Work with the Annual Fund and Athletics teams to strategize for effective outcomes in developing and implementing the President's Circle society, which consists of 1000+ donors.
  12. Be present at game days to help coordinate and run premium hospitality areas.
    • Coordinate efforts throughout the year on strategic Bobcat Club initiatives
    • Create premium opportunities for high level of giving in Bobcat Club
  13. Work independently and contribute to a collaborative environment; demonstrate the ability to work with confidential information and exercise sound judgment.

  8. Technically competent and comfortable using a variety of software applications including MS Office and data management systems.
  9. Experience working with email marketing platforms and knowledge of tracking effective analytics.
  10. Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions and recommendations.
  11. Eager to play an important role on the annual giving team and to be a part of a mission-driven fundraising operation.
  12. Excellent work ethic including willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
